About the Women's Student Activist Collective
The Women's Student Activist Collective is a student organization that strives to empower women and transgendered people on campus to affect positive change in society.
Our Name
The Women's Student Activist Collective was formerly the University Young Women. While the name University Young Women was in use for over 100 years, we feel confident in our reasons for changing the organization's name. Though the name has changed, our goals and our mission have not. To fully understand our reasons for our new name, read our explanation.
Our Mission Statement
"The mission of the WSAC is to empower women and transgendered people to eliminate racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, classism, and all interrelated forms of inequality."
Our Structure
All WSAC programming is student-run and directed by consensus through a collective (find out more about collective process). Currently, we employ one staff member to help run our office and coordinate programming. However, all decisions are made by the collective.
Programming
While our programming changes from year to year, our goal is to focus on furthering social change on the U of M campus and the greater community through the tenet that oppression and identity are both complex and interrelated.
Getting Involved
