Position PapersPosition papers were due October 17th. All members aside from ICJ and IPD are required to write these papers so if you haven't yet turned yours in you need to send them to Emily right away. For more information, see below and check Resources for examples. The paper for each topic should be one-half page in length, single spaced. These papers should not be formatted in any way (bold, italics, footnotes, etc.). Each topic for your country's committee/council assignments should be covered. For the Security Council or Historical Security Council, we ask that you select the two or three most important issues from your country's perspective, and submit a paper on these topics Position papers are not required for either ICJ Judges or IPD Reporters. Positions

INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE (Cases)
· Republic of Guinea v. Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ahmadou Sadio Diallo

· New Zealand v. France: Nuclear Tests Case · Mexico v. The United States of America: Avena and other Mexican Nationals Judges: AMUN's ICJ Judges serve in that position for the full length of the Conference. As there are only 15 Judge slots available, AMUN will select the first 15 qualified Judge candidates who apply. Also, because of the 15 Judge limitation AMUN will only accept a maximum of 2 Judges per school. For this reason, no student should register as a Judge without first consulting with your Faculty Advisor or Permanent Representative, and confirming that the school has selected that student to fill a Judge slot. Entering your Faculty Advisor or Permanent Representative's name on the following form implies that you have received their consent to register as a Judge. Advocates: AMUN expects that each country represented on a case before the ICJ will provide one or two advocates to argue that case. These are selected by the country, and no formal approval process is required through AMUN. We request that the delegation provide the name(s) of any advocates so that additional material can be forwarded directly to that person(s). Also, any delegation may choose to submit an Amicus Curaie (or "friend of the court") brief to the ICJ. AMUN also requests that any delegations submitting these briefs provide the name and contact information for their advocate in advance of the Conference. Note that ICJ advocates only serve in that capacity for the duration of their case, which will normally be four to six hours. AMUN thus suggests that these students should also be assigned to another committee or council, preferably with a partner who can cover the other body in their absence.
DUTIES OF IPD REPORTERSEach IPD Reporter, will be assigned to at least one "beat." These could include each simulation (e.g., Security Council, ICJ, Fourth Committee, etc.), and/or each bloc (e.g. Latin American Bloc). Additionally, Reporters will be assigned to cover news conferences and other Conference events. All IPD Representatives will be responsible for the submission of articles covering their beat(s) for each issue of the paper. Representatives should be prepared to type their own articles (computer training will be provided, if needed), and to assist with the production and dissemination of the paper. The IPD Procedures and Style Manual will be provided to all registered IPD Reporters prior to the conference to further assist in their preparations.

ScheduleThe conference is from November 22nd - November 25th. The tentative schedule can be found here.
