Welcome from the coach

Welcome everyone, new and old. I hope everyone has settled into collegiate life. I wanted to touch base with the team members and start to organize the training year. We will be changing the schedule a bit this year, so that team members don't overwork in the early stages, and to incorporate a more organized weight plan. The team has the use of the main gym in Minneapolis on Wednesday and we hope to get everyone involved in a weight plan on that evening.
I am looking to get everyone sized and fitted on their bikes before or soon after training starts so as not to have such hectic evenings in the gym. I would also like to get everyone to complete a lactate threshold test as soon as possible. I will post on the forums when these events will be available. 'Official' training starts November 9th, and the first week is laid back to allow more social reaction.
The training is heart rate and perceived effort based, so everyone should have a heart rate monitor by training time. It isn't necessary to buy an expensive data download type. Cadence is OK but not necessary either. I will help with power training if you happen to own a wattage meter. The only other training equipment would be a resistance trainer (preferred) or rollers. A mountain bike can be used, but you will want a smooth rear tire for indoor training.
I am recommending that everyone curtail hard training for the next month to allow your body to reset, unless you are racing CX. Any kind of cross training (running, skiing, blading, swimming) is a good idea at this time.
The team has a great sponsor plan, so contact the team officers about the benefits and products available to you. Plan now to join the team for spring break. We have been going to NW Arkansas for the past two years and I think it is a wonderful place to train and have fun.
That's all for now. Please check the forums regularly and post up if you are going riding, so others can join you.
Let's have fun and win conference again.
