U of M out of Points Race

I failed to qualify for the final Points Race this morning. The beginning of the race was fairly late (11am), following a severe crash in the Match Sprint. In a race with 17 riders in extreme heat, the top 12 were to advance, and I finished in 13th, with a single point. Actually, this point should have been sufficient, but the officials failed to recognize that rider number 347 had been lapped by the field. This was quite frustrating, as coaches on the sidelines had assured their riders that enough people had been lapped, and I thought that I was safe, saving myself as much as possible for tonight.

This is a good lesson about passivism in bike racing, though. In the end, the mistake was riding to avoid landing in the bottom four rather than finishing as far on top as possible. Riding from the bottom up rarely works.
