Actually, track racing used to be much more popular in the United States in the early and middle of the 20th century than it is now. Did you know that Madison Square Garden was actually built as a track racing arena? Now all they do is play basketball and have Republican conventions, what a waste.
Minnesota today has one of the nicest tracks in the world, a beautiful 250m track, made from Afzelia wood that was directly imported from Cameroon, Africa. In the 1930's Minneapolis was host to Six Day Races that were held in the Minneapolis Auditorium, which was where the current Convention Center stands.
