Rear wheel computer?
11/03/09 at 17:32:50

Hi all

I love my polar computer but I have been getting frustrated with it's lack of cooperating with riding a trainer. Since the speed sensor is supposed to mount on the front wheel, the computer doesn't recored my HR or cadence info because it reads the bike as being stationary when riding on a trainer.  I moved the sensor to the rear wheel but it is too far away for the computer mounted on the handlebar to read.  I have yet to find a place to mount it where it reads HR, cadence, speed, and is visible  for me to read.

Any suggestions? I have looked around a little bit but the only thing I found was a cateye, which displayed 10 pieces of data on one screen, but seemed like it would be impossible to read.

Thanks!

Are you saying that the speed has to be working to enable the HR? If it's a proximity problem, would it be possible to move the unit to the top tube for training?

Yes, unless the computer is registering speed, it pauses, which stops the recording of HR and Cadence.

I tried the top tube but it seemed the only place I got it to recieve was right against the seat tube, which then is out of sight while riding.

So does everyone have this problem?  Do I just need to rig something up?

It seems every computer I found online uses front wheel speed.

I use the polar 200cad unit. I'm assuming that's the one you have too if you have cadence. Stationary training works like a charm. You might need to turn off the auto start-stop function which starts and stops with wheel rotation when you stop at lights. Also, if it doesn't register and start recording on cadence input you can manually start the unit ( push center button three or four time, can't remember which). This unit will not work mounted to the back wheel. It is outside the wireless range.

Awesome! That sounds fairly easy.

Thanks for the help!
