The University of Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor organization is
working to rebuild a grassroots movement of Democratic politics on
this campus. We are chartered through both the College Democrats of
Minnesota and the Minnesota Young DFL. We give students access to the
elected officials that represent them at the campus, in City Hall, the
State Capitol, and in Washington. We work on issues that matter for
students. We have a record of fighting for students' rights and work
to enlarge our organization through collaboration with other
progressive student organizations.
The U-DFL boasts a membership of roughly 500 students and community
members, and we are always looking for new members to join with us
(sign up for our mailing list). Our events take place throughout
the year, so even if you can not attend our meetings, you can always
join us at one of our events. As an organization, we provide
students and community members the opportunity to take place in a
whole array of events:
Educational Events: Rock the Cauc (a caucus awareness
concert), candidate debates, speakers (this year we brought in a
number of our elected officials such as Mike Hatch, Mike Erlandson,
and John Lesch, and we also host local activist from environmental,
pro-choice, anti-Bush groups.
Social Events: After all our hard work, we have fun
through events such as barbeques and trips to see the Twins or Gophers
preceded by tailgating. Everyone is always welcomed to these.
Campaigning: doorknocking, literature drops, hanging signs, chalking, getting out the vote, phone calling, talking to students about the issues
Campus Politics: endorsing and supporting liberal
students for our student government
