Information for New Players, Fall 2011
Who we are: UBC is a registered student organization at the University of Minnesota. Our members are U of M students, staff, and faculty, there are no membership fees, and we hold casual practices in Cooke Hall 325 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-8 PM, and Sundays 1-5 PM.
How to play: badminton at the U of M is open to everyone, regardless of level of experience! Simply show up at one of our practice times, or use the Cooke Hall facility which is open for badminton play whenever it is not otherwise scheduled. (See http://www.recsports.umn.edu/calendar/cooke325.html for the facility calendar.)
What we're doing: UBC is organizing and participating in several organized events during fall 2011, including a U of M tournament, possibly in November; the Twin Cities Open tournament (October 22-23); and for more advanced players, occasional inter-club competitions. For more information, contact us at ubc@umn.edu.
Where we're going: UBC is considering becoming a U of M official sports club. This would give us exclusive practice times, some University funding, assistance with travel to tournaments, and free facility reservations for club events. Becoming a club requires significant commitment from student members. If you're interested in helping us take the organization to the next level, get in touch at ubc@umn.edu!
UBC Starts Ladder Challenges
UBC launched its badminton ladders May 1, 2010. The purpose is to create a fun way to play badminton games and improve skills.
Joining and using the ladders is really easy: you and your partner register an account, log in, and challenge other players listed on the rankings page. Here are the links to three different ladders:
