Announcement from ISSS (International Student and Scholar Services)
TRAVEL ADVISORY
If you have a fingerprint identification number (FIN) noted on your I-94, you are required to meet with an immigration officer prior to departure. Many airlines do not know this and will tell you that once you have checked in with them, there is nothing else for you to do. THEY ARE WRONG!! You must go to the Immigration Office at the airport from which you are departing the U.S. before getting on the plane, or you will have difficulty in reentering the U.S. Please read carefully the information on the ISSS web site for further information:

Announcement from ISSS (International Student and Scholar Services)
Traveling within the US
You must be able to document that you have lawfully entered the U.S. and that you have maintained your legal status at all times. It is vitally important that you and your dependents carry the original immigration-related documents (I-94 card, valid passport, I-20/DS-2019, I-797 Notice of Approval for Change of Status within the U.S., if applicable) with you even when traveling WITHIN the U.S. International students have been put in jail by law enforcement officials when they traveled within the U.S. because they did not carry their original documents with them.
