Mondrian's Red Tree

Philosophy resources

  • PEA soup is a blog that I contribute to. The "PEA" stands for philosophy, ethics, and academia. Anyone is welcome to read and post comments.
  • The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is an excellent and free resource that I use and recommend to students.
  • Philosophy Compass, is an online-only journal that publishes peer-reviewed survey articles from across the discipline. I have a paper in the Aug. 2006 edition called "Well-Being: Psychological Research for Philosophers", and I co-edit the ethics section with David Sobel.
  • The British Society for Ethical Theory has excellent annual conferences. I'm a member of the Advisory Board.
  • The Philosophical Gourmet is a helpful resource for philosophy majors looking at philosophy graduate schools.
  • The American Philosophical Association is the main professional organization for philosophers. I am a member and frequently attend APA conferences.

Animal rights and vegetarianism

  • Compassionate Action for Animals is an anti-factory farming, pro-vegan non-profit. Their website has announcements about local events, reviews of Twin Cities vegetarian restaurants, and lots of information about how to go vegetarian.
  • Chimp Haven is the home for chimps retired from biomedical research and entertainment. It is a cause championed by my good friend Lori Gruen.

Miscellaneous

  • Mental Engineering is a weekly roundtable discussion about TV commercials and commercial culture which airs on public TV. I've been on the show a number of times.
