About Alpha Chapter
Theta Tau has a rich history here at the University of Minnesota. Theta Tau was founded here at the U on October 15, 1904, by Isaac B. Hanks, Elwin L. Vinal, Erich J. Schrader and William M. Lewis. All four were mining engineering students. As the fraternity grew nationally, so did Alpha Chapter. During the early 2000's Alpha Chapter left the ranks of the active chapters and was inactive until the spring of 2007. At that time, a group of engineering students saw it fit to return the chapter to its rightful state as a model for all other chapters and professional organizations. On October 14, 2007 the core members, Lucas Crist, Daniel Bissell, Daniel Beaver, Ejvin Berry, Adam Linkon, and James Rodgriguez, were initiated and restored Alpha Chapter's presence.
Since that time, Alpha Chapter has been growing steadily and increasing in size and activity. Currently there are 14 active brothers. Members of the chapter come from virtually every engineering discipline as well as year in school. In order to uphold the highest standards of professional integrety, the members of Alpha Chapter have vowed to keep their chapter as a dry chapter with no alchohol being consumed at chapter events.
