Minneapolis, August 19, 2009 3:30PM: There have been several tornado touchdowns and tornado warnings in the Twin Cities metro area and the nearby counties around 2-4 PM of August 19. There are reports of damages in the metro area, but we currently are not aware of any Thai students, scholars, nationals, or ThaiSA members affected. We will post an update on this web site should new information becomes available. Please contact ThaiSA at thaisa@umn.edu for more information or, for ThaiSA members, to report the effect of the tornadoes to you, your friends, or your properties.

The Thai Association of Minnesota, with generous support from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chicago, is proud to host the second bi-annual "Festival of Thailand." The purpose of the Festival is to showcase the amazing food, culture, arts, and people of Thailand.
This exciting event will be held on Saturday, August 15th from 10:00 a.m. -- 6:00 p.m. at Ramsey County Island Lake Park in Shoreview, Minnesota (located west of Victoria Street immediately south of Interstate 694). The Festival of Thailand will feature delicious Thai food from local Thai restaurants, Thai music and traditional dance, arts and crafts, Thai martial arts, Thai tourism, and Thai massage. The mobile Thai Consulate based in Chicago will be available to conduct business for Thai nationals in the upper Midwest.
The Thai Association of Minnesota was formally established as a non-profit organization in 1994. Prior to that, Thai community professionals joined with the Thai Student Association at the University of Minnesota to celebrate the New Year. The goals of the Thai Association of Minnesota are: 1) to develop and support the Thai community in Minnesota; 2) to hold annual events that bring Thai families and friends together to celebrate Thai culture, food, music and art; 3) to maintain the language and traditions of Thai culture; and 4) to share the beauty and rich history of Thailand with fellow Americans.
Admission to the Festival of Thailand on August 15th is free and open to the public (food and products will be available for purchase). Please join the "Festival of Thailand 2009", bringing Thailand as well as her people and culture to the Twin Cities metropolitan area!
For more information, please contact Sombat Supunniam, (952-393-7488), Wanpen Gresser, (763-323-9312) or Ms. Parichart Wallen, (612-701-6019).
