The University of Minnesota Tennis Club is a student-run organization that prides itself on serving the University student population.  As an organization, the club tries to provide a positive, yet competitive tennis experience that aims to retain tennis involvement over the years.

Similar to the USTA Tennis on Campus program's goals, the University of Minnesota Tennis Club seeks to promote and support the expansion of tennis on the University's campus. Specifically, as a member of the University of Minnesota Sport Clubs Program, the Club Team aims to provide high-quality competitive and instructional opportunities for members of the University community. The competitive aspect of the University of Minnesota Tennis club allows our members to compete against other intercollegiate sport teams, while the instructional aspect offers members the chance to enhance their tennis skills. With over 50,000 students on campus, the opportunity to expand tennis awareness is huge.

For the 2009-2010 season, the first day of tryouts have been set for September 11 at 8 pm at the Baseline Tennis Center. Tryouts will proceed for the next two weeks on Mondays and Fridays. If there are spots that open up during the year, we will then accept new players. After fall tryouts are complete, the Team will begin its regular season of match play. In addition, tryouts will cost $5 to help differ the cost of balls and court time.

What you will need for tryouts: 1) non-marking tennis shoes, 2) a tennis racquet, 3) a participation waiver, and 4) your health insurance card.

Are there any fees?

Updated by ML on October 8, 2008

We do collect dues at the beginning of each semester. These dues cover court costs for our practices and matches. These dues also cover basic travel costs (e.g. lodging and transportation) for most matches and tournaments. For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Club's dues are $250 for the entire year or $150 per semester.

When are matches?

Updated by ML on October 8, 2008

Matches are held for both the men and women throughout the year and are usually held on Fridays and the weekends. Every year we tour the Midwest and play other Division 1 club teams as well as several Division 3 Varsity Teams. Commitment to some weekend travel for match play is required if you would like to be eligible for the USTA National Campus Championship in the spring.
