CHAPTER ONE

·        Page 31, last line.  Should read “or 62 g of nitrate.”

CHAPTER TWO

·        Page 58, line 4.  Glucose should be 40% C. Polysaccharides on the other hand are 44% C due to dehydrolysis synthesis.

·        Page 68.  Figure 2.4.  On the figure, procaryotic ribosome is misspelled.

CHAPTER THREE

CHAPTER FOUR

·        Page 140, line 16.  Carrillo is misspelled.

·        Page 161, Table 4.4. The growth rate listed at the bottom of this table should be 0.619

·        Page 162, line 30. The protein synthesis rate should be 2.5 X 10^-11 μg protein ribosome^-1 d^-1.

CHAPTER FIVE

·        Page 183.  In Figure 5.1, the small case symbols for growth all should be g´.

·        Page 191, line 16.  Delete “be”.

·        Page 202, Eq. 5.9 and sentence leading into it (“In general, the GGE…”) refer to element X1, so add the subscript to the X in the text in line 4 and to the leftmost term of 5.9.

·        Page 203, Table 5.1.  Change two instances of “mim” to “min”.

·        Page 214; Figure 5.11.  Shading is missing from two panels and the legend.  Graph columns for +P treatments in the two left-hand panels should be shaded.  In each pair of columns in the top and bottom panels, the right hand column indicates data for the +P treatment, consistent with the low value of C:P indicated.

CHAPTER SIX

·        Page 237, Eq. 6.1, the term labeled “A” should read “eAxSx” (change a G to an S).

·        Page 239, Fig. 6.2.  The fourth line of the figure legend should read “was set at 0.90”.

·        Page 247, line 4.  The word “demonstrate” is misspelled.

·        Page 252; Figure 6.5.  X-axis for the right panel should say “C:P Detritus”.

·        Page 255, line 19.  The statement refers to the left panel of Fig. 6.6.  The two panels are not labeled as to A and B so the text on this line should refer just to Fig. 6.6 (no “B”).

CHAPTER SEVEN

·        Page 271, line 12.  Delete an extra “that”.

·        Page 282, line 6.  Should read, “makes it an increasing function”.

·        Page 298, line 21. The text should refer to Fig. 3.13.

CHAPTER EIGHT

·        Page 331.  Should be “predictable.”

·        Page 337, Fig. 8.7.  The figure has no key for the different points.  They are: small open squares (upper right of graph), desert herbs; open circles, old field herbs; closed squares, deciduous chaparral shrubs; large open squares (near bottom of graph), South African shrubs, and small closed dots, Evergreen shrubs and trees.

·        Page 339, Eq 8.7.  The ratio X1/X2 should be reversed.  Eq. 8.8 is written correctly.
