Chemostats are continuous culture devices that allow us to produce algae of different C:N:P ratio.

R/V Blue Heron returns to Duluth after one of our research cruises.

These three sister Daphnia have identical genotype and are the same age but were raised on low P (left), low N (center) or high P and N (right) algal foods.

The brown layer of zooplankton in the bottom of this jar were just pulled from depth in Christmas Lake, Minnesota.  They are attempting to swim back to low light conditions, part of their vertical migration behavior.

Relevant Graduate Programs are Ph.D and M.S. Programs in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, Water Resources Science and Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota.   

The LSSURP summer undergraduate research program hosts visiting undergraduates who come to the University of Minnesota and work with a faculty mentor.  The Sterner Lab typically hosts one or two visiting summer undergraduates each year.
