Society for Technical Communication
University of Minnesota - Student Chapter
Welcome
-
From our President
- We have a start on a new school year and all of the hectic schedules that goes with it. I hope that you will have a chance to put the STC-UMN chapter into that schedule. We are looking at incorporating some new ideas and bringing back some popular events from the past.
- Come to our planning meetings and bring your ideas. We want this student organization to be truly a student-run association.

The event aims to promote “human-centered design,” or design that simplifies the complex technologies today’s users are faced with on a daily basis.
The 2009 theme is “Designing for a Sustainable World,” and encourages participants to create environmentally-friendly solutions for sustaining society on a global level. More information on STC’s participation in the event will be available soon. Until then, visit the website, at www.worldusabilityday.org.

Medtronic Field Trip
- The University of Minnesota’s student chapter of STC is in the process of planning a field trip to the Technical Communication Department at Medtronic. Medtronic is a leading medical technology manufacturer dedicated to improving and extending the lives of patients. In Minnesota, Medtronic employs over 7,000 people and is planning to expand in coming years. Our students look forward to the opportunity to visit the Mounds View facility. The event is roughly scheduled for late October/early November.
