GSM members will receive a field trip flyer announcing the individual summer 2004 field trips about a month prior to the date of a trip.  Details will be posted on this site around the same time.

ST CLOUD GRANITES

The trip will start in St. Cloud where we will board a bus for tour of the area with the geologist. 

Please note:  as of May 13, 2004, the St Cloud trip is full at 40 people.  Diane has started a waiting list and will call people if they do not make the cut-off.  Diane is at 612-725-0771.

Edward Kraemer & Sons Quarry 

This short field trip will focus on a large limestone quarry in Burnsville, MN with collecting stromatolites as a feature activity.  The limestone in this quarry was deposited in the Ordovician, approximately 450 million years ago.  We will descend into this working quarry with crushing and sorting processes active.  The surface of the quarry exhibits glacial age erosion features, such as river wear, waterfalls, potholes and sinkholes.
