Massage Chairs Can Ruin A Business Deal

Massage chairs are one of my favourite things. I have a massage chair in my office, a massage chair in my living room, and two in my summer house. I love them. As it turns out though, I love them a little bit too much.

A business trip to New York

This story starts with a business trip. I live in LA, and I had to fly to New York to meet a very important client. I sell paper products, and the client I was going to see represented about 50% of my commission for the year. He was also never an easy sell, so it was the kind of meeting that can be a little stressful. To make things worse, I had recently sent my chair in for repair, so for days I was completely without my massage chair.

Massage chairs are an important part of my routine, it’s how I relax, so I was kind of tense when I got on the plane for New York. I was taking a red eye so that I could arrive early enough for my meeting, and I was exhausted when I got on the plane. I slept a little bit, and actually dreamt of my massage chair, but I can never get any real rest on a plane. By the time I touched down for my layover in Houston, I was exhausted, sore, and ready for a massage. Lucky for me, the first thing I saw when I got into the terminal was a nice, brand new vending massage chair.

A heavenly massage chair

Massage chairs are worth any cost, so I barely blinked at the 5 dollar price tag on the massage. That bought me ten minutes, so I put in 10 dollars and settled back. The massage was amazing, and I leaned back and closed my eyes, thankful for a few minutes rest. When I woke up, I realized that my few minutes had turned into just over an hour, and I had missed my flight. The massage chair was just so amazingly luxurious that I had instantly fallen asleep. I was now cursing that damn massage chair.

With massage chair hatred in my heart, I boarded the next flight out of Houston. By the time I got to New York, I was several hours late, dirty, tired and not in much shape to sell anything. I also seemed less than professional, I'm sure, when I told my client why I was late. Needless to say, I didn't make the sale. All because of that heavenly massage chair.
