I did not know that many folks at MHS – just a handful, including Susie and Jancy Campbell, Greg Haffener and Stuart Ramsey. I only went to school three hours each day and then went to work the rest of the day. I did graduate in 1972 and then graduated from KSU with a degree in aviation, and I've worked at Cessna for all these years as an aircraft pre-delivery supervisor. I worked for Walters Construction while at MHS back when gas was 35 cents per gallon. I have lived in Africa, Saudi Arabia, Texas, Nebraska, Florida, Colorado, and Kansas. I never got married and and now at 54 with no kids I'm alive and well in Wichita and hoping to make it to a reunion one of these days. I used to live on Arbor Drive west of Manhattan. I look forward to hearing more from the old crew since I just disappeared after high school.

Hello, Classmates!
It is hard to know where to start after 35 years. Rick and I married after my graduation from K-State in 1976, and we lived in Tulsa for 1 and 1/2 years. We then lived in the Chicago area for two and Edmond, Okla., for 12, moving back to Tulsa in 1992. Rick owns and sells for an air-cooled heat-exchanger business. This has been very successful, and we are proud of him.
I have spent most of my career in dance instruction, having studios in the Chicago area and Edmond. I also worked with gymnasts and have done choreography for various events that either I or the kids were involved in. We have two children: Mark is 25 and is currently at North Park Theological Seminary getting a master of divinity. He graduated from KSU with a degree in Spanish and has spent extensive time in Costa Rica for school and missions. He will graduate next May. Laura is 21, and currently a junior at Oklahoma State studying early childhood education. She will be back home next year student teaching at kindergarten in the fall and first or second grade in the spring. She will be a wonderful teacher! She will also graduate next May!!
I am currently not working and loving it. A few years ago I worked at the clothing store Chico’s for three years and got my wardrobe taken care of. I am working my way through the house that we have been in almost 15 years and doing some updating. I am a Bible Study Fellowship discussion leader, and Rick and I lead a high school-age Bible study on Wednesday nights. We had another one for four years, but they graduated, so we started all over again.
I am also in a garden club ( just an excuse for lunch). I spend my spare time scrapbooking and have recently been making greeting cards. It is fun and keeps my creative juices going!! My parents are still in good health and living in Manhattan. Mom still plays bridge and Dad still fishes.
I am looking forward to seeing you all.

NEWS: I’m a professor and chair of the Communication Studies Department at the University of Minnesota, where I’ve been since 1995. There are four former MHS debaters here on campus, including Joe Reichle, Elizabeth Grayden, John Nordin (Class of ‘72), and me! My partner is Liz Murray, and I have two daughters: Jacqueline is a senior at Texas State University (born 1985) and Lauren is about to enter the third grade (born 1999). I miss Manhattan and sometimes visit it virtually via Google Earth. The easiest way to reach me is by email, so don’t be shy.

NEWS: Robert and I have been married for 22 years and we have two girls, Natalie, 14, and Ashley, 10. Robert is regional manager with Tex-Ply (production building doors, moulding, etc.). Natalie will be going to high school next year. She excels in art and is a competitive dance soloist with numerous platinum awards. I am hoping for a scholorship in the arts, as she wants to be an interior designer or clothes designer. She is also working as an assistant dance instructor, so she is already earning money!! Ashley had a really tough start in life but is doing great!!! She’s like any 10-year-old. She loves to dance, play sports, and SING!!!!!!! I am so proud of both of them!! As for me, after years in court reporting (BC), I substitute in elementary and middle schools around our area. I go where I am needed most, and it is usually with kids with disabilities in elementary (I luv those kids) and troubled kids in middle school (luv them 2).

FAMILY: Bill and I will be married 30 years in June. We have three “children.” The oldest one, Isaac, is graduating from K-State this spring, after nine years, with a dual degree in computer and electrical engineering. He is also our world traveler, having spent a year in Germany in 2002 and an internship in Poland last summer. He has a job in Wichita with a company that designs ethanol plants and will be moving the same weekend as the reunion. Our daughter, Heidi, graduated from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, in 2003 and is an account administrator for Wachovia in Topeka and involved in the local Relay For Life Committee. Our youngest, Nathan, is a senior at Washburn University in Topeka studying music education and will be graduating in 2008. His main instrument is the violin, and he also enjoys percussion. I love to listen to him play. My mother Louise Southerland died last June (2006). We miss her but are glad she is no longer dealing with Parkinson’s disease. My Dad died in 1996.
CAREER: My husband, Bill, still owns his own typewriter repair shop in Topeka. It is a bit of a novelty anymore and as a result the AP did an article on him a couple of years ago, and it was in newspapers all over the country and brought in business from all over the country. He also works a second job for Walgreens as a photo consultant. I still work on the books for the store part time and for KPERS part-time.
OTHER NEWS: We are looking forward to doing some traveling and landscaping. We’ve made a start with a deck. I keep busy with housework, two jobs, our young adults and volunteering as a Sunday school teacher and Stephen minister at church.

FAMILY: Wife, Julie, ADPi from K-State; three wonderful children – at least when I’m talking about them, not when they are around. Gabe just turned 21 and has finished junior year at KSU in electrical engineering. Athletic guy, good runner, swimmer, soccer player, total nerd. Just salivates when working on EE projects. Doing very well. Has internship with Garmin in Olathe this summer.
Luke, 19, just finished sophomore year at Missouri in journalism. Loves sports, spends his time attending sporting events and concerts. Has already seen games in Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago (undying fan of Cubs) this year. Will travel for games. Planning on spending spring semester at school in Paris, mainly so Mom and Dad can go visit. Has internship with Manhattan Mercury this summer.
Both boys are a joy to be around, very easy to talk to, actually show respect to Mom and Dad. Things really change when they get out of high school.
Ellen, 17 just graduated from Winfield High School. Active in everything, very good runner who doesn’t like running, won state cross country championship for 5A her sophomore year, then developed curves and slowed down some. Still was 14th at state her senior year. Plans to walk on to soccer team at Oklahoma State next fall. Will start studies in graphic design. Not out of high school long enough, so Mom and Dad are still stupid.
Julie and I are active in town. I am currently on Chamber Board, Julie was elected to School Board. Just had bomb threat that had us evacuate the high school and middle school, so she’s been busy.
CAREER: Work at Winfield Consumer Products, maker of Husky Liners.
Really will miss not seeing everyone this time. I could be wrong, but I think I have made all of the others. Both Mom and Dad died within four months of each other last year, so we don’t have the reasons to visit Manhattan that we did before.

NEWS: I’m enjoying my kids, Reece, 17, and Claire, 14. We have lived in the Philadelphia suburb of North Wales, Penn., since 1990. I have now lived on the East Coast since 1977. Reece is a junior in high school and has a very nice niche in music. Unlike his father, he can also act. Claire is prepping to swim for the high school this fall, and is practicing nine times a week this spring.
I continue my long career as a freelance writer, specializing in the international produce business. Philadelphia is the largest fruit port in the world. I get out of the country a few times a year to see the source of these healthy items.
The kids very gracefully survived their mom’s three years of terminal illness. Both have done very well in school since Glynis died in September 2004. Both are great kids. I am dating but so far there has been no permanent damage.
My ongoing passion is Gwinllan, a 30-foot ketch docked 100 miles away on the Chesapeake Bay. Come sail with me!

NEWS: Chuck and I have been married 15 years this summer. We live on a 60-acre farm in the hilly, glacial region of northeast Kansas.
I’m privileged to work and play in two areas of great interest to me: horses and communications work. I guess you could say the privilege is that I live my passion. After 20 years in the corporate world of advertising, PR and corporate communications, I started my own business, doing freelance communication work for equine businesses. One of my biggest annual projects is promoting a large equine festival that educates, entertains, and celebrates all things about horses. I also teach riding and teach workshops for horses and riders, both here and at other locations. Chuck runs his heating and air-conditioning business from our farm. Some days this is a busy place, but often it’s a beautiful, peaceful place to live and work!!
We also enjoy involvement in various volunteer organizations, such as our local Chamber of Commerce (it’s very local – Meriden is a town of about 600! J).
My stepdaughters and their families live in the area, so we see them (and grandchildren) fairly often. Chuck and I have found that our native Manhattan nuclear families have dispersed to other parts of the country – we’re the only ones left in Kansas! But we like it here and think Kansas is a well-kept secret!!
I’m looking forward to the 35th reunion!!
