Father, Old Man, Storyteller

Impressionist view of my father My father, Albert E. Yahnke, was born in 1908 and died in 1995. He was diagnosed with lung cancer about three months before he died. At his funeral I   showed a tray of slides (some of them reprinted here) and shared this poem I had written during his illness. I'm the youngest member of the family, the professor, the   writer, and so it was not unexpected that I would provide the eulogy for my father. I had done the same for my mother, when she died in 1981. I think the poem speaks to the many roles my father experienced in his life, and I think it suggests something about his character and values.
