NSP/Xcel Energy

Northern States Power - today Xcel Energy - operates locomotives at its coal fired power plants around the Twin Cities and at it's outstate plants. Here are photos from the Twin Cities area - with a simple yet sharp paint scheme (still with NSP marks to this day) these locomotives stand out against the mountains of coal stored at these plants

Riverside Plant

SW900 R90 seen here in classic NSP colors in 2000. When picking up cars from BNSF the interchange can easily be seen from the public park adjacent the plant on East River Road [aka Marshall] near 31st St in Northeast Mpls...

High Bridge

The St Paul plant used to use SW1 4 - now in the hands of the Gopher State Railway Museum in Chaska. It was painted well before the current white/blue/green/black scheme and even features the old Reddy Kilowatt. GSRM photo

Today they use SW1200RS #501. Interestingly it is lettered HB for High Bridge plant but not for NSP or Xcel Energy... Aaron Floring photo

Bayport

Thanks to Bob Anderson for these shots of the rarely photographed SW1200 #3 at the Bayport plant - seen here in Oct 2004

Unknown plant assignments...
