Minnesota Commercial Railway

This line in the Twin Cities is based out of one of the last roundhouses in the area. They run an eclectic fleet of Alcos and GE's with a couple token EMD units. They were formerly known as Minnesota Transfer. Much more info coming soon on rosters, routes and more.

For now click here for the full Alco roster

RS18 82 and C424 313 run west into the sunset as they head to switch the Hiawatha grain elevators on Hey 55 in south Mpls. See at Cleveland Ave in St. Paul by the roundhouse. Sept 8 - 1999

RS27 318 does a bit of street running as it waits at the Vandalia entrance to the Waldorf-RockTenn paper recycling plant. As it waits for the recycling trucks to unload paper and cardboard the crew reads the paper [what else?] Oct 26 2001

Ex-BN B30-7AB B unit 85B in the new colors - that black stripe really adds a good look to the units. June 2004

The yard - full of Alcos back in 1999, today it is mostly GE power that works there... Scott Kotnour photo

And GP7 400 in its Santa Fe inspired scheme, traded to NRE years ago... Scott Kotnour photo.
Stored power- Power rotation

They have a large fleet of stored locomotives for future slug conversion or as parts units. They are parked at Cleveland Ave in St Paul next to the roundhouse on the old mainline's second track. Power stored in the locomotive rotation is often stored in the back lot area of the shops... Andy Inserra photos - Oct 04

Oliver Mining RS3 #1108 - with an odd rebuilt front end. Stored for parts and possible slug conversion

A homemade nose job - with an extended front platform the unit looks rather odd but is still an RS3!

The rear shot - note the rock guard over the rear vents...

B30-7 5488 from Frisco/ BN / NRE

B23-7 1969 from Conrail / NRE

B23-7 1998 from Conrail / NRE

LSI RS3 1608 - saved for possible slug conversion

One of two B30-7AB units from BNSF - #4076 is stored while 4085 - now 85B - is active...

Old BAR GP7 #66 still in classic BAR colors - parts unit to their old GP7s that have long since gone to NRE (though one CF7 remains)

At the Roundhouse - stored in the power rotation...

The lone SW unit left - SW1200 #200

MNNR's big GE power - C30-7 #55, SF30C #50

Interesting sites on the line...

MNNR does some light street running in the Midway area through some industrial areas. Here we are on Cleveland a block south of University looking west towards Vandalia [only this block is open to photography - the next few blocks are now inside the massive Rock Tenn paper recycling plants and is gated off].
