GOLDEN SPIKE 1

On Feb 6th 2004 at around 7 pm Andy Inserra drove the Golden Spike for the lower level. We had a great crowd all evening - everyone had a good time and got to see the trains in action, from the Soo 950 steamer with its live sounds to Jeff Crump's Zephyr and our own modern UMTC trains. Here are just a few photos from that night by Jake, Bob, Andy, and Jeff....

Andy drives the golden spike as UMTC GP7 2301 and Soo 950 meet on the mainline.

With some help from the magical pliers in the sky the golden spike is driven into the mainline.

Soo 950 awaits the green light to pull out of the yard - this unit has a DCC sound system in the tender from Soundtraxx and it sounds just terrific out on the road

Jeff's silver streak - that CB&Q Zephyr is a hit (esp with an people up in the dome now!). It is seen cruising through Duaplinville at the sight of the future depot...

Family, freinds, members, and more all enjoy running the trains.

Brad Schmitt [on the right in the hat] shows off some of his N scale trains on our demo layout - which on Feb 10th had another spectacular day at Coffman Union...

Soo 950 waits in the yard with more modern stuff - like double stacks that the UMTC carries.

Hey - the fearless leaders. That'd be Andy Inserra on the left - president and all that stuff. Jake Gilpin - VP and electrical engineer/mad scientist extrodinaire is in the middle. Bob Sterner - our advisor and all around Soo nut is on the right.
