Maternal attachment

Diffuse = microcotyledonary - mare and sow
Cotyledonary - cow, ewe and doe
Zonary - dog and cat
Discoidal - primates and rodents

Layers of attachment

Epitheliochorial = all six layers present (endothelium, connective tissue, epithelium of endometrium, trophoblast, mesenchyme and endothelium of fetal tissue) - mare, sow, ewe, cow and doe
Endotheliochorial = four layers present (maternal endothelium and CT lost) - bitch and queen
Hemochorial = three layers present (fetal tissues bathed directly in maternal blood) - primates and rodents
