1) For the four stages of the estrous cycle, describe physical changes in the bitch, and vaginal cytology characteristic of the stage. Draw examples of vaginal cytology you might expect to see at each stage.

2) REVIEW QUESTION: Ovarian follicles produce what hormone? What hormone induced spontaneous ovulation in bitches? What structure forms on the ovary at the site of ovulation? What hormone is produced by that structure?

3) Explain two (2) prospective and two (2) retrospective ways to determine ovulation date.

4) You are presented with a 9 year old Great Dane for estrus suppression. She was recently treated medically for pyometra, and the owners are concerned that the disease will recur if she is allowed to go through heat again. The dog is being treated for cardiomyopathy, and the cardiologist recommends against anesthesia and surgery as a means of estrus suppression. Which estrus suppressing technique will you advise? Please include rationale for your choice, dose used (if applicable), and side-effects of which the owners need be aware.
