An essential part of bridging theory with practice is experiencing the difference between learning to do hip-hop and learning about hip-hop. You are required to assist ONE of five workshops offered in aerosol/graffiti art, beat boxing, break dancing, lyricism, and turntablism. Workshop leaders are professional, well-known local hip-hop icons.

Your grade for this participation will be reflected in your workshop reaction paper (worth 15% of your overall grade). Your reaction paper should focus on the relationship between the study of hip-hop and the performative action of producing one of the elements of hip-hop. You must include reference to workshop details.

Papers should be 5-6 double-spaced pages, 12 inch font, standard one-inch margins, should you reference the texts please include full citations. You may use either APA or MLA citation styles (either footnotes, endnotes or within text citations) however you must be consistent with your choice of writing style.

Workshop reaction papers are due by the end of the semester – however I recommend their submission soon after the session to keep your ideas and memories from the workshop content fresh. A good time frame to consider is just over a week after their respective sessions.
