M.Riviere has been directing, producing, filming,and editing hip-hop music videos with a diverse range of artists and groups in Cuba and Puerto RIco since 2001. Her music video production in Cuba is particularly unique in that the productions are historically marked as the first Cuban national hip-hop videos to air on national Cuban television, receiving a Premios Lukas nomination in 2004 for La Ley 5566 by Anonimo Consejo. Not to be conufsed with mainstream national Cuban acts that fuse rap with other elements, the underground hip-hop community in Cuba has been rather marginalized by television and radio networks. Melisa's videos stand as the first of their kind to confront these standards and open avenues for Cuban hip-hop acts to receive national mainstream attention. In 2005 Melisa was honored by the Asociacion Hermanos Saîz as a producer whose audio-visual and musical work contributes to the national archives of Cuban music. |
