Spring Pride 2010

We have lots of exciting events planned for this year's spring pride celebration. If

Monday, April 19
- Fundraiser for Trans Youth Support Network

A night of fantastic entertainment, all to benefit
the Trans Youth Support Network
. Dinner will be from 6:30-7:30pm. From 7:30-8:30pm there will be music
provided by Laura Klinkert, Queer Spoken word by Girls-Remixed Spoken Word
Troupe and student performers from TYSN. Following performers from 8:30-9:00pm
dessert will be served. Finally, from 9:00pm and on we will have Four Seasons
Dance studio providing music and salsa dance lessons for everyone! There will
be a suggested donation, with all proceeds going to the Trans Youth Support
Network.

Tuesday, April 20
- QSCC Outdoor picnic
On Tuesday afternoon from 4:30-6:30, the QSCC will host an outdoor picnic
for all those who want to join in. We will be grilling, so bring something
to share, with snacks and beverages provided by the QSCC. We will grill
at the River Flats, outside behind Coffman Union.

Wednesday, April 21
- Lobby Day
Lobby Day is an annual all-day event created and sponsored by
OutFront,
a GLBTA organization that works to move Minnesota forward to GLBT equality.
Lobby Day takes place at the St. Paul capital. Minnesota residents can
register to speak with their representatives to discuss GLBT-friendly
legislation. There will be a rally at noon with entertainment and several
speakers as well. The QSCC has a sign-up list for those looking to carpool,
and there will also be a group of students traveling by bus. Sign-up in the

- Ally Appreciation Fair

From 10am-1pm, Friends and Allies is sponsoring an Ally appreciate fair on
the Coffman Plaza. Come for information and resources on becoming a GLBT
ally, and to celebrate all of the great work allies can do for the GLBT
community! There will be prizes and treats as well!

Thursday, April 22
- Bisexual Round Table Discussion, hosted by Biversity
Biversity will sponsor a Bisexual Round Table in the QSCC from 2pm-3pm. Come
to learn about bisexuality and discuss the issues and struggles surrounding
the least visible part of the GLBT community.
- Reception with Bethany Snyder, hosted by QGPA

Come to Kafe 421, located in Dinkytown, from 4:30-6:00pm to meet Bethany
Snyder, the Director of Field Operations and GLBT Outreach Coordinator for
Minnesota Senator Al Franken. Bethany is an alumnus of the University of MN,
with a Masters of Public Policy focusing on feminist/social/public health
policy. She is the first GLBT outreach coordinator for a Minnesota senator.
Come to celebrate her wonderful accomplishments and to learn more about the
GLBT community in Minnesota. Appetizers will be provided, and there will
also be happy hour drink specials.
- Sex Chat, hosted by ARCH
Join us in the QSCC at 7:00 pm for a fun and informative Sex Chat, sponsored by
ARCH, with special guest the Smitten Kitten. We will be discussing a variety
of topics, including issues of safe sex, queer sex practices, and more! A
representative from
the Smitten Kitten,
a local woman-run and GLBT-friendly sex toy and equipment retailer, will be
there to educate and answer questions.

Friday, April 23
- Queer History and QSCC History Trivia, hosted by Queer Women Daytime
Queer Women Daytime will host an afternoon of trivia, focusing on Queer history
as well as QSCC history. This will take place in the QSCC from 2:00-3:00pm.
Bring your own knowledge and hopefully learn some new things to. Prize bags
will be given out.
- A Night of Queer Celebration and Inspiration, including performances from
The Naked I

Join the QSCC for a great night full of moving performances from local
performers, located in the President's Room at Coffman Union, from 6:00-10:00pm.
The Naked I: Monologues from Beyond the Binary, explores the bodies and
experiences of transgender, gender-queer, and intersex individuals. This show
has received rave reviews, and recently completed a sold-out run at the Bedlam
Theatre in Minneapolis. We will also have dance performances and local queer
spoken word performances. An appetizer buffet will be provided during a social
hour from 6:00-7:00pm.

Saturday, April 24
- Gender-bending makeup work shop
Prior to our Drag Show, come to the QSCC from 1:00-4:00pm for a gender-bending
make-up workshop! A professional make-up artist will be on hand to discuss
and teach make-up techniques designed to break all gender boundaries. Get
your make-up done before you head on down to the Drag Show!
- Drag/Variety Show
Our annual Drag and Variety Show event will be this evening, starting at 7:00pm
at The Whole performance venue in Coffman Union. Don't forget to sign up in the
QSCC or
email the QSCC
if you want to participate. All forms of entertainment are welcomed and encouraged!
If you don't want to participate onstage, don't forget to come and cheer on all
your favorite performers!

Monday, April 26
- City of Borders film screening
The QSCC will be screening the film City of Borders in the President's Room,
located in Coffman Union, from 6:00-8:00pm. City of Borders is a powerful
and eye-opening film about the only gay bar in Jerusalem. Combining queer
experiences and an alternative view of a sometimes turbulent and hostile city,
City of Borders explores a place where patrons have so much in common in an
area plagued by religious and political discrimination, conflict and violence.

Friday, April 30
- Queer Speed Dating and Networking
Our last Speed Dating event, held before Valentine's Day, was a rousing
success, and we'd like to offer it one more time before the semester ends. It
will take place in the Yudof Hall Ballroom from 7:00-9:00pm, and we'd love to
see even more people attend. Come for a night of fun, food, and flirting, and
maybe even find a date for the Retro Prom.

Saturday, May 1
- Queer Retro Prom
For our last Spring Pride event, the QSCC is throwing the ultimate alternative
prom! Located in the Radisson Hotel and starting at 6:00pm, the prom will be a
night to celebrate the coming end of the semester with friends, fun and dancin'!
Dress is your best retro attire, bring a date or friends, and shake it to music
from every era!
