The Frank J. Goblirsch Family

Frank Goblirsch was born on February 13, 1874 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. His parents were Johann Goblirsch and Elizabeth Büchl.

On May 30, 1899 at St. George's Catholic Church, West Newton Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota, Frank married Katherine Smasal, daughter of Joseph Smasal and Margaret Schleicher. Katherine Smasal was born August 4, 1879 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota.

Frank and Katherine farmed in Lafayette township for a time and then moved to Lafayette village. Frank was a partner in a general store in Lafayette until it burned in 1908. He clerked in other stores and at the post office after that and then became a grain buyer for the Farmers Elevator Company and for the Great Western Grain Company.

From 1900-1908, Frank owned a general store in Lafayette, Nicollet County, Minnesota. After the store was destroyed in a fire, he worked as a clerk and grain buyer. He played in the Lafayette Cornet Band.

Death
Frank died January 30, 1940 and was buried in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery, New Ulm, Brown County, Minnesota.

Katherine died September 2, 1954 and was buried in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery, New Ulm, Brown County, Minnesota.

F. J. Goblirsch of Lafayette Dies at 66
Funeral for Well-Known Grain Buyer To Be Held Friday

Frank J. Goblirsch, 65, well-known grain buyer, clerk in the Lafayette post office and farmer, died at the Goblirsch home in the village of Lafayette Tuesday at 3:50 p.m. Mr. Goblirsch had been in failing health for the past year, and his death was not unexpected.

Born, February 13, 1874, in Lafayette township he grew to manhood there and was married May 30, 1899 to Miss Katherine Smasal, who survives, at the St. George Catholic church. The Family resided on a farm in Lafayette township for a time and then moved to Lafayette village where they have since made their home.

Grain Buyer, P.O. Clerk
After leaving the farm Mr. Goblirsch was a grain buyer for the Farmers Elevator Company at Lafayette. He then was clerk in the Lafayette post office for two years and for the past 12 years has been grain buyer for the Great Western Grain Company at Lafayette.

Well-known and respected, Mr. Goblirsch had a host of friends in the Lafayette community.

Family of 5 Survives
In addition to his widow, he survived by two sons, Leo Goblirsch, Lafayette, and Edmund Goblirsch, Minneapolis and two daughters, Mrs. Jos. Seitz and Mrs. Rudolph Schmidt, Lafayette.

Funeral services will be held from the Holy Trinity Catholic church Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery.

Goblirsch Rites
On Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank J. Goblirsch, 75, lifetime resident of the Lafayette Community, who died in the Loretto Hospital Thursday morning, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Church of St. Gregory the Great in Lafayette. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Catherine Smasal, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smasal, was born Aug. 4, 1879 in Lafayette Township. She grew to womanhood on the old home place and was married to Frank J. Goblirsch May 30, 1899 in the Catholic Church in St. George.

They resided on a farm in Lafayette Township. Smasal died Jan. 30, 1940. Mrs. Goblirsch resided in Lafayette Village some time after the death of her husband. For the past few months she had been a resident of St. Alexander Home for the Aged and also was a patient in the Loretto Hospital.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. Joseph (Cecelia Seitz), Lafayette Township; Mrs. R. F. (Angeline) Schmidt, St. Cloud; Edmund, Minneapolis, and Leo, New Ulm. There are 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was the last of her family.
