The Adam Goblirsch Family

Adam Goblirsch was born on January 15, 1862 in Zemschen, Kreis Bischoftenitz, Bohemia, in what was then the Austrian Empire. His parents were Johann Goblirsch and Elizabeth Büchl.

In 1868, Adam, then 6 years old, immigrated to America with his parents and two brothers. They arrived in New York City on May 11 on the ship Deutschland. The family settled on a farm in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota.

He married Maria Kaes, daughter of Thomas Kaes and Elizabeth Warta, on November 25, 1884 at St. George Catholic Church in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. Marie Kaes was born October 21, 1862 in Bohemia.

In 1887 Adam and Maria purchased the Kaes homestead in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County and farmed there until 1916 when they retired to 1027 North German Street in New Ulm.

Adam died on April 11, 1946 and was buried in St. George's Catholic Cemetery, St. George, Nicollet County, Minnesota.

Maria died May 21, 1914 and was buried in St. George's Catholic Cemetery, St. George, Nicollet County, Minnesota.

Adam Goblirsch, 84, Dies After Lingering Illness
Adam Goblirsch, 84, died late Thursday afternoon at his home, 1027 North German street, after a long illness. He had been in poor health for the past year and confined to his bed for the past four months.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 in Holy Trinity church with burial in St. George cemetery. The prayer hour will be Sunday evening at 7:30 at the home.

Born Jan. 15, 1862 in Austria, he was the eldest of a family of nine boys and one girl. He came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Goblirsch, when he was 6 years old.

In November, 1884, he married Mary Kaehs in St. George and they lived on a farm in Lafayette township until 1916, when he retired and came to New Ulm. His wife died in May, 1914.

Long active in affairs of Lafayette township, he served on the town and the school boards there, was a director of the Farmers State bank of Lafayette and also a director of the Lafayette creamery. He also belonged to the St. Joseph society.

Surviving Mr. Goblirsch are four daughters and two sons, the Misses Mary and Agnes Goblirsch of New Ulm, John of Lafayette, Mrs. Anna Fruhwirth of Bernadotte, Mrs. Mathilda Lanahan of Des Moines, Iowa, and Albert Goblirsch of Dunlop, Iowa. There are 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers and a sister, Charles Goblirsch of Minneapolis, Anton of New Ulm, Andrew of Genola, and Miss Catherine of New Ulm.

Saturday morning the remains of Mrs. Adam Goblirsch of Lafayette were laid to rest in the St. George cemetery, following funeral services by Rev. Pozek in the Catholic Church at St. George at 10 o'clock.

The deceased whose maiden name was Marie Kaehs, died at the Loretto Hospital the previous Thursday at 5:30 o'clock in the morning. Death was due to diabetes with which she had been suffering for several months. The last few weeks she spent at the Hospital where she received the best of care and medical attention but to no avail.

Mrs. Goblirsch was only 53 years old, having been born in Austria October 21, 1851. She came to America with her parents in the year 1868 and after living at Frontenac, Minn., the family settled on a farm in Lafayette Township. The deceased was united in marriage to Adam Goblirsch, her surviving husband at St. George, November 25, 1884. They immediately settled on a farm in Lafayette Township where they resided continuously until her death. Six children were born to them, all of whom survive their mother. they are Albert who is an attorney at Wabasso and Mary, John, Annie, Mathilda and Agnes who are still at home. She is also survived by her aged father who has made his home with her for many years and a brother, John Kahs who resides at Altamann, S.D.

The Goblirsch Farm
Nicollet County

This farm was homesteaded in March 1876 by Thomas Kas and his wife, Elizabeth.

In March 1887 Thomas Kas sold this farm to his daughter and son-in-law, Adam Goblirsch. He and his family operated the farm, and he lived on it until he retired in 1917. A that time he moved to New Ulm. His son, John A. Goblirsch, took over the farm and lived there until his death in 1955. At that time the farm was taken over by Alphonse. Alphonse and his wife, Sally, are still living on this homestead which was pioneered over a century ago. At present there are 154 acres in this farm. It was recognized as a Century Farm at the State Fair in 1984. Submitted by Alphonse Goblirsch
