Married Couple

He loves her.

We know this

by the bottom

coat button left

open so that he

does not pop it

when he sits down.

Wear your top coat,

it's damp and your

topper too, she told

him before they tubed

to the theatre. He

carries an unlit cigar

though she cannot

stand them. He merely

remarks, A man's got to

have some sport now,

doesn't he? It is a cigar

that has been lit, stubbed,

saved, and carried. She

has the umbrella. He's

checked that she remembers

it at each place along with

her pocketbook. Their

squareness and tightness

frames and fits them together

solemnly like a simple two

piece puzzle. Two faces

mirroring each other as they

walk with opposing feet

along their path to eternity.
