WHY JOIN THE FUUCI?

(Which of these 10 reasons applies to your situation?)

1. Would you like to discover other kindred spirits in cyber-space?

The First Unitarian Universalist Church of the Internet
has already brought people together who live thousands of miles apart.
You becoming a member by creating a Facebook profile for yourself.
Then you go to the "First Unitarian Universalist Church of the Internet",
which is a Facebook Page, and click to become a 'fan'.
Then you have the capacity to become a 'friend'
of any other member of the FUUCI,
which will enable you to share profiles and messages.

2. Do you live somewhere on the globe

where there are very few UUs?

    Computer communication definitely has limitations,
but it might be better than complete isolation.
If your closest UU congregation is more than an hour away by car,
communicating by computer might be better.

3. Are you dissatisfied with the UU activities

available where you live?

The FUUCI might possibly fill some of this gap.
A face-to-face gathering would always be better,
but the logistics might make this difficult or impossible.
In the FUUCI, every member has a direct vote
to select the next cyber-sermon.

4. If you are active in a local UU group,

would your group like some input
from others with similar interests all around the world?

    The FUUCI distributes 'cyber-sermons',
short gems of UU thinking (3 pages or less)
which could be used as discussion-starters by your UU group.
And you (or your group collectively)
could create cyber-sermons to share with others.

5. Are you dissatisfied with the quality or the content

of the programs of your local UU congregation?

Because the FUUCI is the first organization of its kind,
it has the potential of being able to gather and share
the VERY BEST in UU thinking.
And the themes addressed in cyber-sermons
will be SELECTED BY THE MEMBERS.
What issues are you passionately concerned about?

6. Are you dissatisfied with the anonymity

of most Internet communication?

The FUUCI creates cyber-sermons distributed to all members.
But Facebook enables members to respond to these cyber-sermons
and to respond to the comments of other members.
And because most people on Facebook post pictures of themselves,
you will have a better sense of the people who are sharing their thoughts.
And there is always the possibility of private communications.

7. Would you like to participate in more give-and-take

than is typically possible in a local UU congregation?

    The FUUCI creates on-going discussions
in response to cyber-sermons and other communications.
It will also be possible to establish online groups
of people discussing issues of mutual interest and concern.
We may be separated from one another by geographical distance,
but our computer screens bring us right into THIS ROOM.

8. Does your local clergy-person seem hard to reach?

The FUUCI has professional staff members,
who address the interests and needs of the members world wide.
These volunteer professional staff members
create occasional cyber-sermons
and are available by e-mail for personal interaction
with the members of the FUUCI.

(The role of professional volunteers is described more fully here:
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~parkx032/Y-MIN.html.)

9. Are you pursuing an unusual spiritual path,

which makes it difficult to find others
who know what you are talking about?

Your Facebook profile allows you to say as much or as little about yourself.
If you so decide, you could specify your spiritual path,
so that other members who have similar spiritual interests
will be able to make contact with you.
As more people become members,
you may eventually be able to find someone
with whom to communicate concerning
the dynamics of your particular form of spiritual growth.

10. Are your local UU activities

frequently at the wrong time for you?

The First Unitarian Universalist Church of the Internet
bridges the geographical distances that often separate us:
The FUUCI transcends SPACE:
You do not have to be in any particular place.
But we also transcends TIME:
You read the communications when you are ready for them.
And you respond whenever the spirit moves you.
It could be the middle of the night.
The FUUCI will always be there,
waiting for you to tune-in
---and to respond if and when you so desire.
