program at the University of Minnesota,
Friday, Feb. 13, 1998,
1:00 and 3:00 PM.
Mississippi Room (337CMU).
About 12 people attended the first presentation of this
controversial thesis at 1:00 PM
Among them were a photographer and reporter for the Minnesota Daily.
And an article, with picture,
did appear on page 8 of the Daily on the following Monday.
You can read this article on-line from the Daily archives:
Click Archives; then search Andrea Onstad,
the reporter who wrote the story called
"Speaker says romance fades fast".
You might compared this with the article from the previous year:
"Romance free relationships wanted" by Amy Becker.
It can also be found in the Daily archives under her name
or by searching James Park,
which will also yield a number of articles by James Park
about loving relationships, especially articles critical of romantic love.
The second presentation of "Romantic Love is a Hoax!"
was attended by about twice as many people, over 20.
So this means that the total number in attendance was over 30.
This number is less than the previous year,
for which there is no easy explanation.
This year Dr. Date suggested people attend the lecture
in his column, which appeared on the same day as the presentation.
You can also find his column for 2-13-98 in the Daily archives:
After you open the Archives section of the Daily website,
a calendar will appear.
Go to the year: 1998.
Then go to the date: Feb. 13.
Then click the Dr. Date icon.
And his column will appear.
Dr. Date was able to recommend the presentation
because he took part the previous year.
He also referred his readers to James Park's home page,
especially so they could read The Romantic Love Test.
