The philosophy behind these bibliographies
are the result of several years of reading.
They present review about 350 non-fiction books.
I have the luxury of spending about 20 hours a week
reading serious books.
Since the early 1980s,
I have been taking notes on the best books I have read.
I read about 100 books per year
—20% of which are good enough to warrant a review.
offer these bibliographies
are a service to others readers.
You can save a lot of time
by beginning with the best books in any particular field.
I wish I had had such a guide to help me pick books to read.
And if anyone knows of any similar selection service,
I will be delighted to learn of it.
It could guild my reading for the rest of my life.
And I might create a link to such a service right here.
reviews included in
make no pretense of being objective.
I offer my subjective analysis and reactions to each book.
But I give enough basic information about the books
so that readers of these bibliographies
will be able to decide for themselves which books to read.
remain very open to further
suggestions in all of these areas.
I have created bibliographies only in areas
where I feel competent to evaluate the books.
And, I only read books that interest me.
If your interests overlap with mine,
you will find some good books mentioned here
that you might not have found in any other way.
have decided to include
my own books in these bibliographies,
since I write books in these areas
as well as read the works of other authors.
Further, I have decided to list my own books last in the bibliographies,
which are otherwise organized by quality, beginning with the best.
have chosen to organize
the books by quality
in order to save time for busy readers.
If you have time to read only one book in a certain category,
read just the first one—or the first one you can find in the library.
have found alphabetical
bibliographies almost useless.
So I encourage other creators of bibliographies
to rank the books they recommend according to quality.
Many books contain bibliographies
listing all the other books the author consulted.
But most readers do not have time to read
what sometimes amounts to hundreds of books.
Thus, creators of bibliographies will do readers a great service
if they explain which are the best books in their opinions.
have followed my own
advice in creating the bibliographies
for the fourth, fifth, & sixth editions of my book on love:
New Ways of Loving: How Authenticity Transforms Relationships
In the printed book, you have somewhat shorter versions
of the bibliographies on love listed in Section 1. LOVE above.)
2010, I decided to post all of my reviews on Amazon.com.
There you will find them associated with each particular book.
Finally, any such bibliographies
are never complete,
since people keep writing new books in these areas.
I will continue to read as long as my eyes and mind work.
So, I welcome suggestions in all the areas of my interests,
as illustrated by these bibliographies.
