Once again, the gophers show they know their stuff with strong swims in the routine category. Final scores: Carleton College 94, University of Minnesota 92, University of Nebraska Lincoln 21.5
The University of Minnesota placed first in the team competiton with a swim to the music of "Romeo and Juliet" (Jana Burt, Robin Davis, Ann Dienhart, Bonnie Heier, Annie Mikkelson, Maggie Neck, Rachael Rodeck, Caitlin Rooney). Fast-paced moves, along with artistic choreograpy, proved to be an advantage over the other teams. Carleton College took the second place slot with their team of six, and Minnesota's second team (Crystal Austin, Ashley Jurek, Katie Sawicki, Meghan Stelzig, Jessie Virant and alt. Heidi Hackbarth) rounded it out with a third place finish. Mikkelson, Neck and Rooney took home the gold with an energy-filled swim of their "Cowboy" trio, beating Carleton's routine by six tenths of a point.
Carleton's trio may have been no match for the "Cowboy's" but it managed to beat the competition when re-swum as a duet, placing first and second. Robin Davis and Ann Dienhart put up a good fight for the Gophers with their duet, taking third place. University of Nebraska-Lincoln brought up the rear with a fourth place finish.
In the solo competition, Rooney and Neck both gave outstanding perfomances, taking 2nd and 3rd place. Davis and Rodeck proved their individual skills by taking first in the C and D technical elements.
