Gopher Synchro Finishes 11th in the Nation
March 16-19, 2011 - Tonowanda, NY

The University of Minnesota concluded the season in their traditionally strong fashion at the 2011 US Collegiate National competition held in Tonawanda, New York. The Gophers benefitted greatly from strong finishes in the figure and solo categories. Freshman Anna Peshock took second place out of fifty-two athletes in the D Figure competition, and Junior Ali Bodin’s strong finish in the A Figure category earned the University of Minnesota a 9th place finish in that category. In the solo competition, Sophomore Tory Ahmann impressed the crowd and judges alike, finishing in 9th place and representing the U of M in finals. In her final competition, Senior Hannah Riddle also had a strong solo swim, finishing in fourteenth place. In addition to success in the pool, the six Gopher athletes (Tory Ahmann, Ali Bodin, Laura Cooper, Nikki Dickenson, Anna Peshock and Hannah Riddle) also received Academic Awards for excellence in the classroom.
Coaches Victoria Downey and Liz Derr were extremely happy with all of the performances over the weekend. “All of our routines had terrific swims and we’re so proud of all of the athletes. The University of Minnesota has definitely proven to be a team worth watching, and with so many returning swimmers, we’re looking forward to even more success next year,” said Downey.

University of Minnesota Synchro Takes 3rd Place at Regional Competition
March 5-6, 2011 - Columbus, OH
FINAL OVERALL SCORE: University of Minnesota 70
As in previous years, the Gophers came out strong at the North Regional Championships in Columbus, Ohio over the past weekend, finishing 3rd overall behind The Ohio State and Lindenwood Universities and qualifying for US Collegiate Nationals. The Gophers were propelled to victory by soloists Sophomore Tory Ahmann and Senior Hannah Riddle in the routine events, who finished 4th and 5th, respectively. Ahmann’s up-tempo and energetic “Safri Duo” duet with Junior Ali Bodin was another key contributor to the overall score, finishing in 3rd place.
Perhaps the most thrilling finish of the weekend, however, came during the Technical Events. The Gophers swept the medal stand in D Figures, with Freshman Anna Peshock taking first, followed by Senior Carrie Anderson in second and Junior Nikki Dickenson in third place. The Gophers head next to Buffalo, New York for the U.S. Collegiate National Championship March 16-18.

Gophers beat Rams at Colorado State University Invitational
February 12, 2011 - Fort Collins, CO
FINAL OVERALL SCORES: University of Minnesota 92.5, Colorado State University 69
The University of Minnesota sent a handful of swimmers to Colorado to lead their team to victory. Soloist Tory Ahmann wowed the crowd with her sassy solo, scoring a total of 73.25 for the Gophers. In the duet competition Ahmann paired up with Ali Bodin for a final score of 71.00. Ashley Gilles and Anna Peshock followed close behind with 61.25. Bodin, Nikki Dickenson and Gilles rounded out the
team win with an energetic trio, scoring 68.25.
The Gopher Synchro team's next appearance will be at the Collegiate Regional competition in Columbus, OH.

Gophers finish strong at Carleton Invitational
February 6, 2011 - Northfield, MN
The University of Minnesota once again takes the win over Carleton.
Tory Ahmann and Hannah Riddle were neck and neck in the solo competition with Ahmann taking first place (73.50) and Riddle in the 2nd slot with 67.83.
The Gophers also took first and second in the duet competition. Ahmann and Ali Bodin scored 71.83, followed by Anna Peshock and Ashley Gilles witb a score of 68.83. Close behind them were Laura Cooper and Morgan Lillehei taking 4th place with 58.83, and Sylvia Springer and Alyson Kayne scoring 54.16 in 6th place.
The University of Minnesota trio, consisting of swimmers Bodin, Dickenson and Gilles took first place wtih 65.16
Last, but not least, was the University of Minnesota team routine, finishing in 1st place. Ahmann, Bodin, Cooper, Dickenson, Lillehei, Peshock, Gilles and Riddle brought in a final score of 67.33.

University of Minnesota Defeats Carleton College at Home Meet
January 28, 2011 - Minneapolis, MN
FINAL OVERALL SCORES: University of Minnesota 98, Carleton College 78.5
The University of Minnesota dominated Carleton College in front of a cheering crowd
on their home turf.
Soloists Tory Ahmann and Hannah Riddle played to the crowd with their routines, scoring 71.67 and 66.67 respectively. The Gophers made good use of their swimmers in the duet competition, swimming 3 routines. Ahmann and Ali Bodin took first place with 70.17, followed by a 3rd place finish with 58.34 by Anna Peshock and Ashley Gilles. Bringing up the rear in 5th place were Laura Cooper and Morgan Lillehei with a solid swim scoring 55.67 points.
University of MN Trio Bodin, Nikki Dickenson and Ashley Gilles took first place with an excellent swim scoring 63.00.
The meet ended with a crowd favorite, the team competition. Ahmann, Bodin, Laura Cooper, Dickenson, Gilles, Lillehei, Peshock, Riddle and alternate Carrie Anderson took first place by 11 points, solidifying the win for Minnesota.
