March 28 Fighting Mondales v. Macalester

The Fighting Mondales delighted a deafening, standing room only crowd to a 7-1 drubbing of the Macalester undergrads on Friday, March 28th at Highland Arena. Offensive star Dylan Kytola scored and took penalties with ease, while Bryan Browning nobly played the role of a Derek Boogaard (even earning the Mondales' first unsportsmanlike conduct minor!), and the rest of the squad chipped in for a key victory in a fast-growing rivalry. It was the perfect warm-up to the 2nd Annual Minnesota All-Law School Tournament, which begins on Friday 4/11 against William Mitchell.

March 09 Fighting Mondales v. Get It Together

The Mondales clinched a playoff birth with an overwhelming 6-1 victory in their regular season finale against Get It Together! 3Ls Jesse Cheng (2 goals) and Eugene Tagle (+4) provided the offensive pressure, while 1L Ross Trooien teamed up with the Mondales Fan Club to intimidate the opposing goaltender. It was a solid win going into the playoffs. The Mondales play Moos on Tuesday, March 11th at 9pm at Mariucci Arena. Don't miss it!

March 05 Fighting Mondales v. Six One Two

With the Playoffs on the line, the Mondales came up with a clutch 2-1 nail-biter of a victory over Six One Two. It was the most exciting game of the season by far. The Mondales are peaking at just the right time, with the Playoffs beginning March 10th, and the big Macalester game scheduled for March 28th.

3L James Magnuson banged in his second goal in as many games to give the Mondales an early 1-0 lead on a nifty two-on-one. Later, 2L Rygo Foss, aka Team Speed, added the game winner after dangling around Six One Two's inferior defense in another highlight reel goal for the new Mondale. The hero of the night, however, was goalie Tim Blasius, who stopped over 30 shots in another dominating performance. The Mondales look forward to adding another victory against Get It Together on March 9th.

February 20 Fighting Mondales v. Jimmy Caps

The Mondales 5-0 win against hapless Jimmy Caps was all around the best game of the season. Dominant! "I see big things going forward for this team as we move into the key portion of our season," said forward Nate Taran (2L).

While Bryan Browning (3L) didn't exactly come through on his 8 goal prediction, James Magnuson (3L) and Jesse Cheng (3L) teamed up on a tic-tac-toe passing play that left everyone's head spinning and the goalie without a chance, newcomer Rygo Foss (2L) gave the Mondales a burst of speed like he was Alex Ovechkin, and co-presidents-elect Teddy Bickel (1L) and Ross Trooien (1L) continued to make opponents look like mini-mites. It was a lot of fun watching everyone play so hard, and the Mondales' legions of fans were thoroughly impressed. The players even heard chants for the new t-shirts! They're coming soon...

February 13 Fighting Mondales v. Sigma Chi

The Mondales suffered another tough loss after a hard fought game. The team lost 6-4 with an empty-netter. After taking the lead 4-3 late in the game on Ted Bickel's (1L) second goal of the night, a couple of defensive mistakes cost the Mondales their first W in the IM league. It was a fast-paced, tight-checking (sometimes of the body variety!) competition in front of a record number of Mondales fans at Mariucci Arena. Kate Crampton (1L) had an awesome one-time rebound goal after Nate Taran (2L) intercepted a pass in the offensive zone and fired a shot that the goalie couldn't handle. Bickel's first goal went through a stunned and obviously frightened opposing goalie. The Mondales look to regroup next week (2/20 at 7pm) against Jimmy Caps.

Playoff - February 03 Fighting Mondales v. Hamline Law School

Huge win vs. Hamline! The Mondales dominated from start to finish, and came out on top 5-2. Everybody skated well, and Jared looked like Alex Kangas on a good night! We had key goals from all over the ice. Kate C. scored a clutch rebound goal on a tough shot from Eugene, Nate and Dylan each scored unstoppable re-directions from the front of the net, and newcomer Dan outworked 6 Hamline players for a highlight reel tally. As if they'd been practicing it all their lives, the family Swenson anchored a shut-down penalty kill late in the third period. All around solid performance.

December 02 Fighting Mondales v. St. Thomas Law School

The Mondales had one of their best battles of the season against St. Thomas Law School.  After going down 5 goals in the first period, the Mondales charged back and were down just one goal (7-6) in the third period.  Nate Taran (2L) and Mike Reif (Alumnus) each scored on great shots from the slot.  Dean Matheson (3L) and Gustav Melander (Exchange) connected on a 2 on 1 for a Mondales goal.  The Mondales had several more chances to score late in the game, but could not complete the comeback and lost 8-6.  The Mondales take on the St. Paul Muskies next week.

November 25 Fighting Mondales v. Hamline Law School

The Mondales dropped a close game against Hamline 5-3.  Charlie Dickinson led the team with two goals, one on a nice shot after walking around a defender and the other in a battle in front of the net.  Dylan Kytola also scored for the Mondales with a nice wrist shot from the right side of the net.  The team is still in contention for a spot in the playoffs and will be back in action next week against St. Thomas Law School.

November 18 Fighting Mondales v. Excuse

A stunning third-period comeback ensured the Mondales a 4-4 tie against top-ranked Excuse in Week 7 action at Drake Arena. After ringing the crossbar twice, 1L star Ted Bickel lit up Excuse's otherwise stingy netminder with a powerful wrist shot to the left side. Eric Swenson (alumnus), Nate Taran (2L) and Dylan Kytola (3L) chipped in gritty goals for the shorthanded Mondales, who uncharacteristically racked up 16 penalty minutes on a series of questionable calls. The Mondales look to get back on their winning track next week against Hamline Law School.

November 11 Fighting Mondales v. National Guards

The Mondales defeated the National Guards 4-1 in a great team effort. With the win the Mondales continue to move to the top of the league. Ross Trooien showed some nifty moves and scored a goal worthy of the highlight reel. Kate Swenson played a great game on defense and along with the other defenders held the opposing team to only 1 goal. Eugene Tagle had a solid game creating several scoring chances in the slot. Kate Crampton was all over the ice and even knocked down one of the opposing players who got in her way. Overall, the Mondales played very well as a team.  The Mondales play Team Excuse next week.

November 04 Fighting Mondales v. The Legends

The Mondales had their chances to score, but faced a hot goaltender in a 5-1 loss to the Legends. The first two periods of the game were very close and the Mondales played well both offensively and defensively. Ross Trooien and Nathan Taran were among several players creating excellent scoring chances and Dylan Kytola and Ted Bickel led the team's defensive front. Charlie Dickinson scored the lone goal for the Mondales. However, the team struggled to put the puck in the net and the Legends pulled away in the end. The team looks to rebound next week against the National Guards.

October 28 Fighting Mondales v. William Mitchell Law School

The Mondales picked up a huge 3-2 win against rival William Mitchell! Keven Dobie (Alumni) started the Mondales scoring by crashing the net and pounding a shot in. Dean Matheson (3L) scored the second goal with a powerful slap shot from just inside the blue line. Dylan Kytola (3L) scored the go ahead goal with a close range wrist shot from the right side...the goalie never had a chance. Goalie Jared Phillips kept the Mondales in the game with some spectacular saves. All the Mondales played well in the very physical game and the team came away with the first win over Mitchell in recent years! The Mondales look to continue their win streak against The Legends next week.

October 21 Fighting Mondales v. St. Paul Muskies

The Mondales tallied another win beating the St. Paul Muskies 6-4. The Mondales dominated at both ends of the ice. Ted Bickel (1L) was solid on defense and also scored a nice wrap around goal. Curtis Wells (2L) had several nice plays both on the offensive and defensive ends of the ice. The Mondales have a big game next week against rival William Mitchell.

October 13 Fighting Mondales v. St. Thomas Law School

The Mondales came to play against St. Thomas and won 8-2. Five different Mondales scored goals in the convincing win. Eugene Tagle (3L) and Swedish exchange student Gustav Melander both stood out playing very well in the game. The Mondales also played well on defense, holding St. Thomas to only two goals. The team hopes to carry this momentum into next week’s game.

October 7 Fighting Mondales v. Hamline Law School

The Mondales started off the season with a tough game against rival Hamline. The game was close for two periods, but Hamline pulled away in the end to win 6-4. Charlie Dickinson was the star of the game scoring a hat trick for the Mondales. The Mondales look to get back on track next week against St. Thomas.
