On February 4th, 2000, the U of M Campus GOP officers and a few other Republican lackeys piled into two cars for the long trek to Duluth. The destination: Mean Gene's. None of us had been there or even seen it. All we had to go on was a glimpse someone caught of the sign from I-35. Some of us were expecting a bar, some of us expected a fast-food restaurant. Some of us went as Mean Gene fans. Some of us, like myself, didn't even know who Mean Gene was, but hey, free roadtrip.
As we wound our way around the dark streets of west Duluth looking for it, the curiosity was building. But no one was prepared for what we found. It wasn't even its own restaurant. It's in a gas station. We drove 150 miles to eat a burger. At an Amoco station. The burger was pretty damn good, but still... 150 miles. For a hamburger. At a gas station.
We're all glad we went. Some of us had never laughed harder. Some of us got into the Gopher-Bulldog game at the DECC (3-2 Gophers!). But so others could learn from our foolishness, this page was created. We didn't bring a camera, but hey, we were in a convenience store and we just couldn't turn down the chance to immortalize the experience. Enjoy!

Yes, it's in a gas station. Where do you think we got the camera?
