No to Bush's War on Iraq!

This premeditated showdown with Iraq has always been conceived by the George W. Bush and his administration as a war, not for democracy or human rights, but for the economic and strategic interests of US imperialism, especially for the oil companies. It is a war for oil but it has increasingly also become a struggle by Bush to re-assert the dominance of the USA on the world stage.

The war will not be fought and paid for by the polliticians and oil companies that will profit from it. It will be paid for on the backs of workers and students, and fought by the poorest sections of society.

The key element in fighting this war is organizing mass resistance that involves working class people. Workers have the power to bring the economy and the whole society to a standstill and to hit those standing behind the war where it hurts them most - their profits.

This war has revealed to millions that imperialism is alive and well, and many will not only want to fight against this war but also the system which gives rise to these horrors. That's why we in Socialist Alternative believe we need to go on to build a permanent movement that will fight for a society that takes people first before power and profit, and in which the majority of people decide their own future - a socialist society.
