Article I - General

Section 1: The official name of this organization shall be the Campus Libertarians at the University of Minnesota.

Section 2: The club shall operate as a non-profit organization.

Section 3: The club shall abide by the applicable rules and policies of the University of Minnesota pertaining to student organizations.

Section 4: This group shall exist for the purpose of promoting libertarian principles on the University of Minnesota campus. "Libertarian principles" shall be those in accordance with the national Libertarian Party's "Statement of Principles." This group supports the Libertarian Party's 2008 platform.

Article II - Membership/Impeachment

Section 1: Voting membership is open to all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Minnesota who share the goals of this organization.

Section 2: No more than one third of the voting membership shall consist of non-students.

Section 3: Membership is open to all students without regard to race, religion, color, sex, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, creed, marital status, public assistance status, or sexual orientation.

Section 4: To become a member, one must fill out the membership application form and return it to the president of the club.

Section 5: Active members are defined as those who have attended 2 of the last 4 meetings.

Section 6: Any member/officer may be impeached for misconduct including failure to perform duties, lack of attendance, and the misuse of funds. The member/officer shall be given at least a week notice before the next meeting and an opportunity to defend him/herself. This impeachment vote shall require a 2/3 majority vote of active members.

Article III - Officers

Section 1: The officers of this club shall consist of President, Vice President - Finance, and Vice President - Publicity.

Section 2: All officers must be currently enrolled students at the University of Minnesota and registered for at least six credits.

Section 3: Officers shall be selected during the first regular meeting in April and shall serve for a period of one year. Officers shall be elected by a plurality of the voting members attending the meeting. The President shall announce the time and location of the elections by the time of the previous meeting.




Section 4: The duties of the officers are as follows:

    a. President - Preside over all meetings of the club and act as official representative of the club at other meetings and events. Maintain the web site or delegate this function to a club member.

    b. Vice President - Finance - Preside at meetings of the club in the absence of the president. Succeed the president if the president is unable to complete his/her term of office. Handle financial transactions of the club. Maintain thorough and accurate records of all transactions. Produce financial reports as required by the club.

    c. Vice President- Publicity - Oversee preparation and distribution of posters and other literature promoting club events and activities. Succeed the Vice President-Finance if he should be unable to complete his/her term of office.

Article IV - Meeting

Section 1: A regular meeting shall be held on alternate Wednesdays, or at such other times and places as the membership shall decide.

Section 2: Official business may be conducted and voted upon by members attending the meeting provided that it is announced prior to the meeting.

Section 3: Decisions of the club shall be enacted by a majority vote of the active members of the club.

Article V - Financial Matters

Section 1: The club shall not provide monetary gain, incidentally or otherwise to its directors or membership.

Section 2: Unless otherwise specified by the membership at the time of dissolution of the organization, residual assets shall be distributed to the Libertarian Party of Minnesota.

Article VI - By-laws

Section 1: By-laws may be proposed by the membership and may be adopted by a majority vote of the active members.

Article VII - Amendments

Section 1: Amendments to the constitution may be proposed by any member of the club. Such proposals shall be submitted in writing to the president prior to the next meeting so that they can be distributed to all members to read ahead of time.

Section 2: Duly proposed amendments shall be submitted to a vote of all active members. A 2/3 majority is required for adoption of an amendment



The Constitution on this page is only an interim one until a new one can be adopted. Read the proposed Constitution and please suggest some changes which might be made.
