We are an honorary service organization dedicated to helping the bands of the university. Our most popular service projects include providing the Marching Band with t-shirts and hats for Spat Camp (our band camp) and the annual Date Auction. We will also be helping our Marching Band move into their new stadium this fall.
If you are a University of Minnesota band instructor and would like Kappa to assist you in a project, please submit your request to the email below putting "Project Request" as the subject line.
Kappa Alpha Project Requests
Band Extravaganza! - Kappa applied for and recieved a Coca-Cola Activities grant to help sponsor and provide a full complimentary reception following the concert. We are hoping to make it an annual project.
Conducting Desserts - Kappa provided desserts to the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic bands during their lunch breaks after they played for the Conducting Symposium held by the School of Music for local band directors looking to gain more insturction.
Plastic Mouthpieces - Kappa, Tau Beta, and the Marching Band split the cost of purchasing uniform plastic mouthpieces for all brass horns to use for the various weather conditions in the outdoor stadium.
Moving Out - with the new TCF Bank Stadium opening, there was a lot to move from Northrop Auditorium down the street. Kappa members served as extra pairs of arms to get all of the music, instruments, uniforms, and other items to the band's new home.
Spat Camp Apparel - We provide our Marching Band with uniform T-shirts and hats for camp participation as well as the State Fair parade performance.
Date Auction- A popular event where band members, Kappa members, and even some of our TAs put themselves up for auction with a small gift to be auctioned off to anyone willing to attend. This is always a lot of fun and never fails to be very entertaining.
Rookie Pals - Every season, there are over one hundred new members to the Minnesota Marching Band known as "rookies." The older members in the band, known as vets, are asked to volunteer to be a “vet pal.” During Spat Camp, Kappa holds a Rookie Pal Social which emphasizes a personal as well as a mentor relationship between the two individuals.
Marching Band Booklet - Prior to the end of season banquet, the members of Kappa Kappa Psi ask all of the graduating seniors and leadership members to write a note to their fellow members, directors, staff, and parents reflecting on their time in the UMMB. The letters are compiled, placed under a student-designed cover, copied using Kappa resources, and placed on the tables at the banquet for everyone to enjoy.
