My Favorite Richland County Links
This is a collection of my favorite links regarding Richland County Genealogy. It is not meant to be comprehensive, but simply those links I check when I am starting to look for something and what I just keep watching. I keep making the rounds of these and other links and often stumble upon other great resources.
There
are two very important things to remember
when using online genealogy sources:
1. Content is added continuously.
A site you checked yesterday
might have new information today.
2. You can't
believe what you find online without verification.
It may or may not be
correct, but it is a clue to follow.
The Richland County History Room
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~richlandcowi/index.htm
Under their "HOLDINGS" heading there is a description of some of
their resources, including Manuscripts, which is indexed so you can see if your
family is one where extra information is available.
Under the "LINKS" heading is information regarding copies of articles
from newspapers published in the county.
This should be a starting point for anyone doing Richland Research.
Death and Cemetery Information for Richland
County
Dave Thompson has a major project to document all deaths and burial
information for Richland County. He has
two main pages of information; the first is a list of all death certificates
available in the county from the earliest through 1998.

The second page is the starting page for his cemetery
information, where all known burial sites are described and plans to provide
photos.
Connected with cemetery information is a listing of Richland obituary notices
from 1970 to date.

with photos and family information. They

Lori's Richland County Genealogy Page

Lori has not updated her page lately, but there is some good information on it,
including Dave's cemetery information, above.
She has some very good pictures of the library and the courthouse.
There is also an impressive section on military service from Richland County.

This is a relatively new site that specializes in links. It
