Definitions and abbreviations of recurring events (Click for info)

Special Events, published only once, but may have genealogy value

 ca

Both the Richland Rustic and the Republican Observer published lists of those receiving county aid and the amount.  I made an effort to eliminate duplicates, since many names appear more than once, but I did not always succeed.

 ch

The new Court House was described in a special edition of the March 27, 1890 edition of the Republican Observer. In these special pages are items about the early history of Richland County, including some biographical sketches of prominent citizens, especially those of the bar. Several paragraphs had detailed genealogical information and were noted by a single asterisk after their name.

 h

From January 6, 1898 to Aug 4, 1898, the Republican Observer ran a "History of Richland County" in the newspaper, a different chapter most weeks. All names in this history were combined to form an Index to History.
The Feb 2, 1899 issue of the Republican Observer began a column reprinting items from the  Richland County Observer of 30 years older. These were coded as historical, 'h." This lasted a few weeks.

 KB

George Krouskop had a banking business from 1870 to March 31, 1884, when the bank failed and was closed.  The Richland Rustic published a list April 26, 1884 of all accounts in the bank and the amount.

 p

The Richland Rustic printed a list of County Pensioners in 1884, including name, reason for the pension, monthly amount and date granted.

 Roll

In Sept, 1885, the Republican and Observer printed the names of all residents of Richland County who served in the War between the States. There were 812 total entries published as a "Roll Call" in:
Sept 10, 1885, page 1, columns 2,3,4,5,6; Sept 17, 1886, page 1, column 4; Sept 24, 1885, page 8, column 4
A transcribed list shows everyone included;   List of 1885 Veterans. Copies of the actual articles are  1885 Veterans

 Ro2  (Roll2)

July, 1886 a Reunion was held and 416 Veterans registered for the event, more than half were living in Richland County. The Republican & Observer published the story July 8, 1886 and the Rustic ran it in July 10, 1886 issue. Lists were included.

 Sup

The October 18, 1888 Republican and Observer contained a 4 page supplement, written to be published in a Chicago newspaper describing the activity of business in Richland Center.  Many people included in this supplement had extensive biographies of genealogical interest as well as business information.  Often the individual's age and birth place was mentioned and when they arrived in Richland County.
The December 3, 1891 Republican Observer also contained a supplement describing Richland Center business activities.

 U1884-3-13  (Pub Date)

A single issue of the, Richland Union Democrat, March 13, 1884, was microfilmed and put on a miscellaneous reel. It was read and sorted chronologically with the Rustic, but the publication date indicated as U1884-3-13.
