HOW TO FIGURE YOUR GRADE IN 3 STEPS (1-1-5)

If you need help, do as much of this sheet as you can and then show it to me or ask about it.

STEP 1: Figure your attendance, weekly papers, & final project first.
(You might want to make two estimates: one for your present score & one for your planned score by the term's end.)

ATTENDANCE, 20%-
How to Check It:

  1. See the attendance records.

  2. Figure out how many misses you now have (or will have).

  3. Look at what letter grade that gives you.

  4. Write the grade:

GRADE: _____

WEEKLY PAPERS, 60%--
How to Check It:

  1. See the weekly papers records.

  2. Count how many X's you have now (or will have by the end of the term).

  3. Use this grid to figure your letter grade:
    100-90=A+ to A-.   80-89=B+ to B-.   70--79=C+ to C-.
    60-69=D+ to C-.  50-59=F+.   30-39=F.  0-29=FF (0%)

GRADE: _____

STEP 2: Next, estimate your participation grade:

PARTICIPATION, 20%.  Estimate it--  GRADE ____   --or use the following scoring guide.
(You might want to make two estimates: one for your present score & one for your planned score by the term's end.)

Your participation grade is worth as much as 100 points (or 100%).  Give yourself 0-10 points for each of the items below, depending on how you are doing.

    0-39%=0,  40%=4,  50%=5,  60%=6,  70%=7,  80%=8,  90%=9,  100%=10
POINTS: ____
h. How much attendance have you completed?  (Repeat this one because it is important.)
    0-39%=0,  40%=4,  50%=5,  60%=6,  70%=7,  80%=8,  90%=9,  100%=10

____________

PARTICIPATION GRADE: 100=A+, 93-99=A, 90-92=A-.              87-89=B+, 83-87=B, 80-82=B-.
77-79=C+, 73-77=C, 70-72=C-.           67-69=D+, 63-67=D, 60-82=D-.     50-59=F+.  40-49=F.  0-39=FF (0%).

STEP 3: Finally, write the results and average them.
(You might want to make two estimates: one for your present score & one for your planned score by the term's end.)

Here's a simple way to average your grade.  You will make ten individual grades and then average them.  If you need a point system to help you (e.g., by converting your letter grade to points), there is one at the bottom of this box..  Here is how to average your grade:

I. First, move your letter grades from above down to the blanks just below.  Convert them to points if you want, using your own point system or the one below.

1a. Attendance grade: __________ (write it twice because it's worth 20%)
1b. Attendance grade: __________

2a. Weekly Papers grade: __________ (write it 6 times because it's worth 60%)
2b. Weekly Papers grade: __________
2c. Weekly Papers grade: __________
2d. Weekly Papers grade: __________

2e. Weekly Papers grade: __________
2f. Weekly Papers grade: __________

3a. Participation grade: __________ (write it twice because it's worth 20%)
3b. Participation grade: __________

II. Second, if you're using a point system, add all ten lines of  "1-4" above:  _____ (total).
(If you're not using a point system, then simply estimate the average and place it here--_____--as your estimated grade).

III. Third, if you're using a point system, divide the total by 10: _____.  This is your estimated grade.

If you need a point system for averaging, you can add your grades and find your average using the following numbers: A+, A, or A- = 15-13.  B range =  12-10.  C range = 9-7.  D range = 6-4.  F range = 3-1.  FF/No credit = 0.
