Schedule of Films for 2007-2008 Church Year:

October 14, 2007--Jim Gertmenian, "Ararat"

This film is a famous and critically well-received fiction about the Aremenian Genocide, one of the biggest in numbers in the 20th century. If you are interested in understanding genocide, this is an important film. Jim, our pastor and a person of Armenian descent, would like to use this film as an opportunity to share with people what he understands about genocide from his own cultural history. Jackman Hall. For more about it, go to www.PlymouthFilm.org.

October 21, 2007--Mariana Shulstad, NRCAT/HBO's documentary "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib" (mature audiences only)

This special 2nd feature in Oct. is a compelling documentary meant only for mature audiences and for those with strong fortitudes, as the subject of torture is documented--not without delicacy and care, but with rigor and honesty. See for yourself what is happening at Abu Ghraib.

November 11, 2007--Jeff Hall/Sierra Leone Plymouth Project, "Blood Diamond"

Jeff Hall and his Sierra Leone-Plymouth Project are in an good position to describe why this fictional film is full of accurate descriptions of the "blood diamond" conflict that encompassed Sierra Leone and Liberia in the 1990s. The film was poorly reviewed and so poorly attended here, but well received elsewhere, and the lead actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, won an Oscar for it.

Jan. 13, 2008--open, Global Concerns Committee, "Thunderheart"

This fictional recreation of the conflict between AIM (American Indian Movement) radicals and FBI in the early 1970s on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota well depicts the tensions and the sometimes complex, problematic issues involved in the standoff between the two groups.  This well-acted movie also has an excellent presence of place.

Feb. 10, 2008--Rev. Jeff Sartain, "Camp Out"

Jeff not only is hosting the showing of this documentary, about also has at least one cast member from the film agreeing to be present for the discussion. This should be an exciting chance not only to see a great film but also to meet and talk with at least one cast member from it. See details about the movie at http://www.campoutmovie.com/Welcome.html.

March 9, 2008--Philip Brunelle, Organist/Choirmaster, "Les Choristes (The Chorus)"

Philip has chosen this recent drama about a French boarding-school choir director in part because of the glorious music by a famous French boys' choir and in part because of the warm relationships developed by the characters as they improve their lives through singing.  The film was nominated for a 2005 Best Foreign Film Oscar.
