These three sections represent three important skill areas in teaching writing, each of which sometimes is the major focus of a writing course. Here is how to use these three sections:
"CREATING" is about creative writing. It is appropriate for beginning and intermediate college-level creative writing classes, for advanced high school creative writing, and for individuals interested in exploring creative writing on their own.
In this section, only one chapter, "Writing a Story," has the typical parts found elsewhere in this textbook of "Introduction," "Basics," "Advanced Methods," and "Samples." All of the other chapters are free-flowing, offering activities or advice. All of the chapters, however, are practical, and all provide basics about both the craft and the creativity of creative writing.
"ANALYZING" & "DESCRIBING" primarily are for composition students and instructors interested in using WAC (Writing Across the Curriculum). They are appropriate for introductory and intermediate-level college writing courses. The chapters in these two sections largely are collections of chapters from other sections.
