Course Overview

This course traces the history of the Land of Israel from pre-historic times through the modern age. The course is primarily focused on the political and social history of the Land of Israel. We will examine the succession of political rulers of the land and the cultural legacy of the inhabitants of Israel. This will be achieved through a reading of literary sources and archaeological evidence. We will also explore the cultural developments that took place within the Land of Israel throughout the ages. The course treats the origins and development of the three monotheistic religions that claim Israel as a religious center: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, examining the historical context of their emergence and the nature of their relationship with the land.
