How to create a guide

Just follow these three easy steps:

  1. Search the guide library for an existing guide that closely matches the needs of your vacancy.
  2. Download the selected guide to your computer.
  3. Bring the guide into your word processor and modify it to fit the requirements of your vacancy.

Note that interview guide questions or comments within parentheses are not to be asked of the applicants. They are reminders for you to observe something during the interview. You will take interview notes right on the guide (a separate copy of the guide is used with each applicant) so format your guide with space for notes after each interview question.

You should review interview guide design tips before creating your first interview guide.

Editing a Guide

If you've used the option to download guides directly to your word processor you're ready to start editing immediately. Otherwise, follow these steps:

  1. Open your word processor
  2. Go to the File Menu and choose "Open File"
  3. Choose the Rich Text Format file type
  4. Go to the destination where you downloaded the guide
  5. Select it for use

Editing notes:
The first thing you should do after retrieving the guide into your word processor is to save the guide under a new name of your choice. This will preserve the unedited master guide for future use. To do this use the "Save as" selection located on the File Menu.

Next, you should change the position title on page one to reflect your vacancy.
Now you can do your editing of competencies and questions. Many users prefer to insert a page break after each set of questions, which allows them to add space after each question for writing notes during the interview.

Enjoy!
