Planning is well underway for the 4th annual Student Paper Conference, to be held on March 13, 2008. Sponsored by ITSO, the conference will feature student research presentations on a variety of transportation related topics. Students from any degree program at any university are invited to submit an abstract for consideration. Last year, students presented research on the following topics, among others:

•Roundabouts:  The Intersection of the Future?

•The Consistency of Neighborhood Preferences Among Movers

•Improving Queue Size Estimation for Minnesota’s Stratified Zone Metering System

•The Price of Fuel and its Effect on Transit Ridership Accepted presenters will receive a $250 award. Please submit abstracts to itso@umn.edu by February 29, 2008. Abstracts will be reviewed and six accepted presenters notified shortly thereafter. Travel compensation is available for out-of-town presenters. Please also see the attached flier for details.

As an effort to encourage students pursuing a career in transportation, ITSO gives two $500 awards (one for graduate students and the other for undergraduate students) in recognition of active involvements of transportation research every year. Any current students of UMN are encouraged to apply. Applications should contain a CV and a personal statement, describing your involvement in transportation related fields or plans of research. A full paper is not required, but welcomed. Applications should be sent to itso@umn.edu before March 5th 2008 in order to be considered. Awards will be announced and granted at the student conference. Winners will be informed by email before March, 13th, 2008.
