Oh wait, that power button on the Windows Vista Start Menu isn't actually a power button—it's a sleep button. Oh, those extra few pixels of difference really point that fact out to me. Mmmhmmm. No wonder I was having computers complain that I hadn't shut them down properly. Oh, and how do you change it? By right-clicking on the taskbar and finding the Start Menu properties? Nonononono—by right-clicking on the desktop, Personalize → Screen Saver → Power Options → and a few more clicks I can't remember off the top of my head. Brilliant!
And what's with having a black screen while the system is starting up? And with powering down the monitor 20 or 30 seconds before the machine finally goes to sleep or hibernate?
Great minds we have over there in Redmond...

Y'know, you'd think that Windows would have a "Restart" button right on the Start menu, considering how often you have to reboot the systems. Vista has a graphically nifty little power icon, but that turns off the computer without any other prompts. You have to click the little '>' icon to the right and select Restart there instead. *sigh*
Oh yeah, the University of Minnesota's "premium" accounts no longer have CGI scripting enabled, hence the low-budget nature of my page at the moment. I've been working on a replacement blog engine, but got distracted a few weeks ago after visiting my brother in California. Things have been busy at work. I'll get back to it eventually.
